Event Concept
The 2008 Melbourne Salsa Classic is to be held on Saturday June 14 2008. The event weekend will have a pre party on Friday June 13. The weekend event will be held at the NorthcoteTown Hall – High St NorthcoteThe event is designed to provide dancers with the opportunity to compete for the National Salsa Classic held in Sydney in August 2008.The Australian Salsa Classic will be the only and official Australian qualifier for the biggest and most broadcast Annual World Salsa Championships run by the Salsa Seven Organisation led by Mr. Albert Torres.
Key Aims & Objectives
The event will take place over two evenings and one day with the competition running on the Saturday evening. The event aims to provide:

Networking opportunities to increase awareness of Salsa Dance in Melbourne Opportunities for dance schools to promote their classes and services
Opportunity for businesses to sell dance wears and apparel directly to the dance target market by way of exhibitors.

The Australian Salsa Classic is the Official Australian Qualifier for the ESPN World Salsa Championships and is a competition open to Australian and International competitiors as well.
The Australian Salsa Classic has secured an association with the largest Latin promoter in the world, Mr. Albert Torres with a commitment to hosting such an event in Sydney annually, commencing in April, 2007. The Australian Salsa Classic will be the only and official Australian qualifier for the biggest and most broadcast Annual World Salsa Championships run by the Salsa Seven Organisation led by Mr. Albert Torres.
The 2007 event was a great success, and the 2008 event will be announced shortly.
Competition is held in 4 divisions:
"On 1" Division
"On 2" Division
Cabaret Division: Any Move In Which Any Part Of Either Dancer Is Above The Shoulders Of Their Partner. (Includes Lifts, Cartwheels Or Any Similar Lift Or Tricks
Team Division: Need To Have 3 Couples Or More
Prizes
The winners of each category will be crowned the Australian Salsa Classic Champions 2008 and given the exclusive right to represent Australia at the World Salsa Championships 2008. The winners will also be flown courtesy of ESPN to the respected country in which the 2008 World Salsa Championships will take place with the possibilty of being featured in the finals to over 100,000,000 ESPN viewers world wide, winning $10,000USD as the 1st prize and being crowned World Salsa Champions 2008.
